The Kama Sutra is not pornography? Is that something along the lines of saying "I read playboy for the articles"?

The Karma Sutra is a spiritual text which explores sexuality. Songs of Solomon in the bible are a (slightly soft-core) celebration of the same. I don't see that isolating sexuality from spirituality suddenly makes it porn, or vice-versa. I've heard the same argument applied to sex with minors (apparently its OK if it is approved by church or some higher power) and didn't find it too convincing there either.

Thanks for this post Alex. An interesting read!

Oh, just to clarify with the first point - broadcasting standards do not permit it for that reason.

Pornography is not accessible without restrictions due to the adverse affects it has on children - namely, children who are exposed to pornography early in life are affected by it on a deeper level, and can lead to various forms of incest and other abuses later in life.

It still baffles me however, how violence is seen as perfectly acceptable - however the lines are blurring.

Really, pornography is pretty easy to get. It's easier to get than ammunition, so I think that point you make is somewhat incorrect.

Its not shown on mainstream television or on mainstream web portals like YouTube, but its not like its hidden by an oppressive authority - type Porn into google. The internet is making old media's assertions obsolete. But with that, you are always going to get exploitation when you get out of the fringe. There is no real point in old media laxing its restrictions - people will get it irrespectivley.

By the way, the Kama Sutra is a spiritual Indian text, its not pornography...
